ABOUT ME I am a 53 year old middle class white guy and a life long Mississippian.I have a grown daughter who is married and has 3 children. A politically conservative, I have some strong Libertarian leanings. I am self-employed in business and very involved in my community. I am also a life long Methodist, I have come to realize that the theology of all the mainstream religions is wrong, but my real issue with them is the radical, extreme liberalism that has taken them all over except for maybe the Southern Baptists, with whom I also have isssues because they butt-in to things they should stay out of. I believe churches should take positions on moral issues, but lobbying for legislation that infringes on peoples liberties is wrong. People have a right to any kooky or immoral ideas they wish to have as long as they don't involve others. Southern Baptist leaders claim to be conservative, but I don't claim them even if we do end up on the same side on many occasions. So, this is about my own rants and raves on issues that I find important, and links to others that I agree with. Maybe some that I don't. We'll see. While I consider myself a Christian Deist, this is not about much of the deism we find on the internet. It is not about environmental wacko-ism, new ageism, secular humanism or any other strange movements. It is also not anti-religion, as so many deist sites seem to be. Most of them are very clear about what they are against, but don't say much about what they support. Local congregations of all denominations have done wonderful work over the years and have some truly sincere people who have lived their lives as God would have them live. We should be very careful what we tear down, because the replacement may be worse. I believe in an all-powerful God who is interested and involved in what He created. The only question is what does He actively take a hand in and what does He leave to the system He created. I also believe in the teachings of Jesus, who understood better than any the natural laws of God and died trying to teach them. Jesus was a true Deist. I also believe in the principles of liberty and government as expressed by the United States Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and the writings of the founding fathers of this great country. UPDATE: The United Methodist Church assesses what is know as "apportionments" to each of its congregations and expects them to be paid. The are line items that are sent on to the national organizations. My own congregation has stopped paying most of them since 2008 and we are ready for a fight. We would like to leave the UMC with the land and building. |
